A.J. Brown
A.J. Brown Lucrative extension with Philly
Thu, Apr 25, 2024, 6:54 PM
Brown (knee) signed a three-year, $96 million extension with the Eagles on Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Rumors emerged early in the offseason that Brown was on his way out of Philadelphia after a disappointing close to the 2023 campaign. He did his best to shut the speculation down, and this extension -- which reportedly includes $84 million in guaranteed money -- should squash any lingering doubt as to his future with the Eagles as he's now under contract through 2029. Brown -- who is bouncing back from a knee issue that he sustained in the Eagles' regular-season finale -- has had two standout seasons with the team, topping 1,450 in each year with 18 total touchdowns.
DeVonta Smith
DeVonta Smith Signing three-year extension
Mon, Apr 15, 2024, 9:47 AM
Smith agreed to terms Monday to a three-year, $75 million extension with the Eagles, Ian Rapaport of NFL Network reports
Analysis: Smith's extension reportedly includes $51 million guaranteed, though the exact terms remain to be disclosed. That keeps the young wideout linked to Philly through the 2028 season, with Zach Bergman of The Athletic reporting that the team is additionally exercising Smith's fifth-year option. Smith remains in a plus fantasy situation alongside fellow WR A.J. Brown as one of the go-to passing options for quarterback Jalen Hurts along with tight end Dallas Goedert and new running back Saquon Barkley.
C.J. Uzomah
C.J. Uzomah Agrees to terms with Philadelphia
Thu, Apr 11, 2024, 3:08 PM
The Eagles signed Uzomah (knee) to a one-year contract Thursday, Olivia Reiner of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: After spending the first nine years of his career with the Bengals and Jets, Uzomah has found a new home in Philadelphia. The nine-year veteran appeared in the Jets' first 12 games last year before sustaining a season-ending MCL injury. In those contests, Uzomah tallied eight receptions for 58 yards and one touchdown, playing in just 32-percent of the team's offensive snaps. Once 31-year-old has recovered from his MCL issue, he's expected to compete for the Eagles' top backup tight end role behind Dallas Goedert.
Parris Campbell
Parris Campbell Gets one-year deal in Philly
Thu, Mar 21, 2024, 10:20 AM
Campbell and the Eagles agreed to terms on a one-year contract Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Campbell, a 2019 second-round pick, is coming off a disappointing one-and-done season with the Giants. Across 12 regular-season games in 2023, he secured 20 of 27 targets for just 104 yards, while adding 191 yards as a kick returner. He was more productive with the Colts in 2022, with a 63-623-3 receiving line across 17 contests. Campbell now gets a chance to compete for depth work behind A.J. Brown (knee), DeVonta Smith and DeVante Parker.
Kenny Pickett
Kenny Pickett Dealt to Eagles
Fri, Mar 15, 2024, 2:01 PM
The Steelers are trading Pickett to the Eagles for a draft pick swap, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: As recently as 10 days ago, multiple Pittsburgh beat reporters said the team preferred to keep Pickett and Mason Rudolph and then let them compete for the starting job. Both are now gone and will be backups for other teams, while the Steelers have Russell Wilson as the lone QB on their offseason roster. The move to Philadelphia might help Pickett's development but also means he'll have no opportunity to compete for the top spot, instead serving as a clear backup to Jalen Hurts. The 2022 first-round pick has two seasons remaining on his rookie contract, plus a fifth-year option for 2026 that's unlikely to be picked up.
DeVante Parker
DeVante Parker Links up with Eagles
Tue, Mar 12, 2024, 3:00 PM
Parker and the Eagles are in agreement on a one-year contract, Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
Analysis: Frank suggests the Eagles will only have to pay Parker something around the veteran's minimum, with New England in line to cover most of his 2024 compensation. The Patriots reportedly are set to release Parker on Wednesday at the start of the 2024 league year, despite his $3.2 million base salary being fully guaranteed. The 31-year-old has never lived up to his status as the 14th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, but he does have 5,660 receiving yards through nine season and should be in the mix for Philly's No. 3 WR job behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. None of the guys that filled that role for portions of last season -- Julio Jones, Quez Watkins, Olamide Zaccheaus -- is under contract with the Eagles for 2024.
Kenneth Gainwell
Kenneth Gainwell Becomes backup to Barkley
Tue, Mar 12, 2024, 1:03 PM
Gainwell is poised to operate as the backup to Saquon Barkley, who slated to sign a three-year, $37.75 million contract with the Eagles, Eric Edholm of NFL.com reports.
Analysis: Gainwell looks set to remain Philadelphia's No. 2 running back, but instead of backing up D'Andre Swift (who is set to join the Bears on a three-year, $24 million contract), he'll look to complement an established, true three-down workhorse in Barkley. That could spell less opportunities for offensive touches for Gainwell, who tallied career-high marks with 84 carries for 364 yards and two scores in 2023, but he should retain quality value as an insurance option behind Barkley. Gainwell's versatility makes him a solid depth option for Philadelphia, though the team could still add further reserves to the backfield.
Saquon Barkley
Saquon Barkley Signing with Eagles
Mon, Mar 11, 2024, 1:50 PM
Barkley and the Eagles have reached agreement on a three-year, $37.75 million contract that could be worth up to $46.75 million and includes $26 million fully guaranteed at signing, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: While the dollar amounts in initial contract reports are suspect, Schefter was specific about all the key details on this one. The Eagles have upgraded their offense by swapping out D'Andre Swift (Bears) for Barkley, who figures to have the best offensive line of his career after spending six years with the division-rival Giants. QB Jalen Hurts' proficiency as both a scrambler and short-yardage runner takes away some of the receiving and TD production that might otherwise go to a running back, but the Eagles will surely make Barkley a priority after signing him to a large contract, and at the very least it should be a good situation for piling up rushing yards.
DeVonta Smith
DeVonta Smith Not fretting about extension
Wed, Feb 28, 2024, 12:55 PM
Smith said in a Feb. 8 interview that he isn't too worried about a contact extension, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. "It's all in God's hands," Smith said. "At the end of the day, extension or not, I'm going to have to come in and do what I have to do."
Analysis: While eligible for a contract extension following his third NFL season, Smith is almost certain to end up under team control through 2025 via the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. The Eagles will need to officially pick up Smith's fifth-year option by May 2. In Smith's case, he'll be earning a fully guaranteed $15.59 million for the 2025 season, which is well below what he would receive on the open market. A holdout would be more likely in 2025 than 2024, though it isn't entirely impossible that he sits out training camp this summer if he's frustrated with his initial extension talks with the Eagles.
A.J. Brown
A.J. Brown Wants to stay in Philly
Fri, Feb 23, 2024, 3:39 PM
Brown (knee) called into Sports Radio 94WIP on Friday to shut down trade rumors and say that he wants to stay with the Eagles.
Analysis: Brown took matters into his own hands after hearing trade rumors from Philadelphia media on the heels of the Eagles' late-season meltdown. He was clear about not wanting to be traded and not having any issues with QB Jalen Hurts, and Brown also mentioned feeling like the team's coaches were unfairly blamed for a disappointing 2023. All the same, Philadelphia will have new coordinators on both sides of the ball in 2024, having hired Kellen Moore for the offense and Vic Fangio for the defense. Assuming he's right about the trade rumors being bogus, Brown will remain a central figure in the offense for the second season of his four-year, $100 million extension. The knee injury that kept him out of a wild-card loss to Tampa Bay isn't expected to impact his preparations for 2024, and Brown figures to be taken late in the first round or early in the second round of most fantasy drafts, just as he was last summer.
Albert Okwuegbunam
Albert Okwuegbunam Returning to Philadelphia
Thu, Feb 22, 2024, 11:15 PM
Okwuegbunam (hamstring) signed a one-year deal with the Eagles on Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Okwuegbunam spent the 2023 season in Philadelphia, but he was regularly a healthy inactive. In total, he suited up for only five contests and was on the field for 55 offensive snaps and five special teams snaps. Owuegbunam could see a slight uptick in his role in 2024, but he is very unlikely to make an impact on the stat sheet.
Tyrion Davis-Price
Tyrion Davis-Price Inks with Philly
Tue, Feb 20, 2024, 11:41 AM
The Eagles signed Davis-Price to a reserve/future contract Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Davis-Price, a 2022 third-round pick drafted by the 49ers, signed the largest reserve/future contract in the league per his agency Elite Loyalty Sports, which could be notable for his chances of sticking to the roster throughout the offseason. In his lone cameo for San Francisco last season, Davis-Price carried the ball six times for 21 yards.
Britain Covey
Britain Covey Has knee surgery
Thu, Feb 8, 2024, 6:25 PM
Covey underwent a procedure on his left knee this offseason, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: The punt returner noted it likely contributed to the nagging quad issue he dealt with during the season, per McLane. As a receiver, Covey caught four balls for 42 yards and no touchdowns in 16 games in 2023, though he did averaged the second-most yards per punt return (14.4) in the league. In 17 games in 2022 with the Eagles, Covey did not record a catch.
Jack Stoll
Jack Stoll Ends year with five catches
Fri, Jan 19, 2024, 9:29 PM
Stoll played in all 17 regular-season games for the Eagles but was targeted just eight times, catching five passes for 38 yards.
Analysis: Stoll was on the field regularly in each game, playing 38 percent of the Eagles' offensive snaps, but his role was primarily to block. Even with Dallas Goedert missing time for the second straight season, Stoll never had a game in which he was targeted more than twice.
Britain Covey
Britain Covey Almost exclusively on special teams
Fri, Jan 19, 2024, 8:43 PM
Covey appeared in 16 regular-season games but was almost exclusively used as a kick and punt returner, catching just four passes for 42 yards.
Analysis: Covey played all 17 games in 2022 without being targeted a single time, so his six targets in 2023 represent a step forward. Five of those targets came in Week 18, with the Eagles resting starters for part of the game, so there's little reason to believe Covey is a threat for even double-digit receptions next season.
Olamide Zaccheaus
Olamide Zaccheaus Targets drop with new team
Fri, Jan 19, 2024, 8:40 PM
Zaccheaus finished the year with 10 catches for 164 yards and a pair of touchdowns in 17 regular-season games.
Analysis: Zaccheaus was targeted 53 and 61 times in his final two seasons in Atlanta, but that number dropped all the way to 20 after his move to Philadelphia. He went without a target in six games and without a catch nine times. He'll be a free agent this offseason but didn't set himself up well for a substantial payday.
Kenneth Gainwell
Kenneth Gainwell Small steps forward in third season
Fri, Jan 19, 2024, 8:29 PM
Gainwell rushed 84 times for 364 yards and two touchdowns i n 16 regular-season games, adding 30 catches for 183 yards through the air.
Analysis: Gainwell's carries and yards both represented career highs, albeit not by huge margins over his 68 carries for 291 yards as rookie. He also saw his workload get scaled back significantly after his first two games, as he averaged four carries per game the rest of the way after carrying the ball 14 times in each of his first two contests. It's unlikely he suddenly becomes the lead back for the Eagles next season.
Quez Watkins
Quez Watkins Numbers dip in fourth pro season
Thu, Jan 18, 2024, 9:20 PM
Watkins finished the year with 15 catches for 142 yards and one touchdown.
Analysis: Watkins averaged 38 catches for 501 yards over the previous two seasons, so his 2023 campaign counts as a clear disappointment. Hamstring issues limited him to nine games, but he also faced new competition from Olamide Zaccheaus and Julio Jones, which cut into a target share which was always going to small with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith on the roster.
Rashaad Penny
Rashaad Penny Non-factor for new team
Thu, Jan 18, 2024, 9:09 PM
Penny finished the season with 11 carries for 33 yards in three games, adding one catch for five yards.
Analysis: Penny entered the season with a fair amount of hype, as he had a potentially large share of the carries for a productive offense available to him if he could finally stay healthy. Injuries were in fact not a problem for Penny this season, but rather than competing for the No. 1 job, he spent the year as the Eagles' fourth running back and was a healthy scratch in all but three games.
Jacob Harris
Jacob Harris Heading to Philadelphia
Thu, Jan 18, 2024, 7:51 PM
Harris signed a reserve/future contract with the Eagles on Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Analysis: Harris appeared in two games with the Jaguars during the 2023 campaign, failing to garner a target while playing 14 offensive snaps. The wide receiver will now look to impress with the Eagles in order to potentially earn a spot on the team's initial 53-man roster in 2024.
